About Tamtettoucht
Tamtettoucht a.k.a Tamtattoucht
The Berber village of Tamtettoucht sets in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Its name comes from ancient times when this entire valley was controlled by the Ait Izdi. Once, this family maintained crops while nomads from the mountains hunted and collected herbs.
Often these two people came together in the rural community market to exchange goods. When the Ait Izdi moved to Ziz valley these mountain nomads were invited to take care of the crops with a twelve-monthly payment of half the harvest. Each year a caravan of donkeys would cross the Atlas Mountains to delivery the annual fee ending with a
vast feast.
Tamda means “place with water good enough to plant” and Toucht “leasing of fields with yearly payment”.
